Medication evaluation and monitoring

Psychiatric Medication Evaluation & Management in Denver

CATC provides psychiatric medication evaluations and medication monitoring for adults who need a careful review of symptoms, medication options, side effects, effectiveness, and coordination with therapy when appropriate.

Medication decisions deserve careful monitoring

Psychiatric medication can be helpful for many people, but medication decisions should be based on careful assessment, history, current symptoms, prior medication response, side effects, medical context, and personal goals. CATC provides psychiatric medication evaluation and ongoing medication management with a psychiatric nurse practitioner.

Medication services may be appropriate when symptoms are affecting mood, anxiety, sleep, focus, emotional regulation, daily functioning, therapy progress, or recovery stability. If medication is prescribed, prescriptions are sent to your pharmacy and follow-up visits are used to monitor how the medication is working.

CATC serves Denver, the Denver Metro Area, Fort Collins, Greeley, Northern Colorado, and eligible telehealth clients across Colorado. Owner and Executive Director David A. Yingling, LPC helps connect clients with the right service path after contact.

When to consider a medication evaluation

  • Symptoms are persistent, disruptive, or not improving enough with therapy alone.
  • You want a professional review of medication options, benefits, side effects, and monitoring needs.
  • You are already taking psychiatric medication and need follow-up monitoring or adjustment support.
  • A therapist, primary care provider, evaluation report, court-related provider, or support system recommended psychiatric medication assessment.
  • Co-occurring substance use and mental health concerns require coordinated care planning.

Evaluation and monitoring process

  1. Initial review

The psychiatric nurse practitioner reviews symptoms, diagnosis or diagnostic questions, medical history, current medications, prior medication trials, allergies, substance use, safety concerns, and goals.

  2. Medication discussion

If medication may be appropriate, the provider discusses options, expected benefits, possible side effects, timing, and how medication fits with therapy or other support.

  3. Prescribing when appropriate

If medication is prescribed, the prescription is sent to your pharmacy. Medication is not automatic; it depends on clinical assessment and provider judgment.

  4. Ongoing monitoring

Follow-up visits review effectiveness, side effects, adherence, dosage needs, symptom changes, and whether additional therapy, evaluation, or outside coordination is needed.

Integrated care with therapy and evaluations

Medication management is often strongest when it is connected to the rest of a person's care. CATC can coordinate psychiatric medication services with mental health therapy, substance abuse counseling, mental health evaluations, or substance abuse evaluations when releases are signed and the care plan supports it.

That service continuum helps clients move from evaluation to therapy, psychiatric medication evaluation, and ongoing medication monitoring in one Denver-based behavioral health setting when those services are clinically appropriate.

If you have current medications, prior medication names, pharmacy details, or outside-provider records, bring that information to intake or your first appointment.
